Lacy from Auckland asks: Are there any effects on me if my boyfriend injects P and then has sex with me?
Our reply: There’s no evidence to suggest that P used by your boyfriend can affect you by having sex with him. Methamphetamine is metabolized in the body and is not discharged through sperm, sweat, urine, etc. But some studies (done with mice and rats) show that repeated use of P could affect the quality of the sperm resulting in a decreased male fertility. (For a pregnant woman it is much more serious, if she is a P user that will directly affect the fetus.) If you wish more information about P use there are informative websites given on our links page. To find someone to talk to contact Sadinz again, tell us what area of Auckland you are in and I’ll post a contact for you.
B.
from West Auckland asks: I have people in my family who use
P, what can i do to help them, they dont think they have a
porblem, but i can see that they are getting agro and more into
it. How do i keep myself safe Our
Reply: Thanks for contacting
us. ‘B’ your safety is of the first importance.
Without knowing more about you or your specific situation
it is too difficult to suggest things here that you can do to
help those in your family.
But you can get help locally. You should contact your
local CAYAD resource person. I spoke with him this morning and
he said he would welcome your call. Please call Colin on 836
8000 ext. 8660 or 021 –680 817. If it is easier (and perhaps
safer) for you to email him then please do. colin.nathan@waitakere.govt.nz
Good on you for caring about your family.

Ross
asks: Who are the panel of experts? What are their
qualifications? Let
me introduce myself. My name is Bryan Divers. I researched,
wrote and directed the 'P'play, Ten foot tall and Bulletproof.
This involved interviewing P addicts, ex-addicts, NZ police,
Drug and Alcohol Public Health Advisors, CAYAD workers and
Psychiatrists. I also consulted documents from around the world
concerning methamphetamine and addiction. Included in my reading
were works from the likes of Dr Marsha Rosenbaum and Dr Richard
Rawson. Initially
the questions posted come to me and if I can answer them easily
using the resources gathered in researching the show then I do
so (a number of the resources I use you can find through the
Links page) Questions that are beyond my area of expertise I
refer to members of the support team that toured with the 'P'
play. Ross,
I'm sure that your concern is that the advice given here is good
advice. Of course I share your concern. Although I cannot be
sure, the manner in which you posed your questions has suggested
to me that rather than seeking advice for yourself or someone
close to you, you may be in a position to offer it. (If not
please ask your question) I hope that this reply has put your
mind at rest. If you have further questions please contact sadin
again. If you include a contact I could also correspond with you
directly (all questions pass by my private email befor being
posted - any contact sent to me will not be posted on this
site).
"G"
from Aucks asks: my boyfriend
has been snorting P so is it safer than smoking it? The
Panel replies:
There is no safe way to take ‘P’! It has been reported that,
yes, smoking is indeed the most addictive way of using, but
because of this fact don’t make the mistake of assuming that
snorting is not also extremely addictive!
"Beaute"
asks: Do people get mental when they take P or sick The Panel replies:
Both! P effects both the mind and body. For the mind it causes
anxiety, euphoria, and depression. Long-term effects can
include, paranoid or delusional thinking, some scientists say it
can cause permanent damage to the brain. Taking P can also cause
chronic fatigue and has other long-term physical effects,
causing liver, kidney, and lung damage. People addicted to P do
not look after themselves well.
P may also kill you. It drives some people to suicide and
an overdose can result in heart failure. "E" from Huntly asks: How do you get off
dopez? Me and my boyfriend smoke every week at his house and now
we are trying to get
off using drugs can you please give us some help? thankyou. The Panel replies: Getting
off dope is all about making a firm decision and then finding
support from friends and/or whanau (and finding the right
friends of course, because some may not want you to stop). You
can also seek help from your local community health workers. In
your area you could contact Major at the local CAYAD tel. O7 828
9790 or 021 134 6557. Good on you!
